“WEDNESDAY”
This creepy comedy horror television series just recently came out on Netflix and it has already got many positive reviews from viewers all over the world. You have probably heard of American filmmaker Tim Burton, the genius of gothic and creepy horror movies. The creator of “Sweeney Todd,” “Edward Scissorhands” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” was the executive producer of “Wednesday” and directed four of nine episodes of the series, and it is a big reason to enjoy “Wednesday”.
The second reason to watch the show is the fictional character Wednesday Addams, whose story the series is about. Do you remember the famous movies of Barry Sonnenfeld, “Addams Family” (1991) and “Addams Family Values” (1993) about the mysterious Addams vampire family? Then you probably remember not only the magnificent Morticia, Gomez, and Fester, but also their daughter Wednesday. She’s interested in ghosts and vampires, is always dressed in black clothes, and has a vivid imagination. The series tells the story of how the grown-up Wednesday studies at Nevermore, the college for children with paranormal powers. The students are werewolves, vampires, and sirens, and the school itself is connected with creepy mystical events. Wednesday has not only earned the mystical secrets associated with the history of the school and solved a series of crimes but also will learn many secrets about her own family. And in this college, Wednesday learns what real friendship and first romantic relationship are all about.
Although the series is mostly about Wednesday, all the members of the Addams family – Morticia Addams, Gomez Addams, Fester Addams, Pugsley Addams, Lurch, and even the Thing also appear in the series. The Thing is the very active hand separated from the human body. She can communicate in sign language and has her mind and character. The cast in “Wednesday” is brilliant: Wednesday is played by young and talented American actress Jenna Ortega, famous for many award-winning films and series, Morticia Addams is played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, and director of the college, Principal Larissa Weems is played by “The Game of Thrones” star, British actress Gwendoline Christie. Interestingly, one of the main roles in the series, the role of teacher Marilyn Thornhill was played by Christina Ricci, who played little Wednesday in the award-winning movie of Sonnenfeld. Not only teens will love this series, but the whole family is sure to get in on the action, thanks to the creepy “Burton” atmosphere, the twisting dynamic plot, the humor, and the brilliant cast.
“THE SANDMAN”
This fantasy drama television series is based on the comic book written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics about the fictional character of Dream or Lord Morpheus. Lord Morpheus is the powerful ruler of Dreaming and one of the seven Endless, the powerful supernatural beings who rule the universe.
In 1916, however, he was imprisoned. For a century, the prisoner had only to watch his kingdom transform. And these days, the Sandman finally breaks free into a whole new and strange world for him. He must revive his kingdom and deal with his six powerful relatives. The leading role in the series was played by Tom Sturridge, and the other famous British actors Gwendoline Christie (who also starred in the “Wednesday” above), Charles Dance who played Lord Lannister “The Game of Thrones”, and David Thewlis, the performer of Remus Lupin in Harry Potter franchise also played in the film. You will like “The Sandman” if you like fantasy dramas and movies about superheroes and supernatural beings.
“INVENTING ANNA”
Among the most popular projects of the streaming platform was the true story of a young Russian con artist, who was touring America under the name of Anna Delvey. Anna’s victims were not only famous actors but also top managers of large American corporations. The series bribes the trust of the audience that the plot is written based on a real investigation by journalists of New York Magazine.
The prototype heroine was a certain Anna Sorokina from Russia, who lived in Germany. After graduating from college in 2013, Anya decided to move to the United States, took the pseudonym of Delvey, and declared herself the owner of a billion-dollar fortune! Such a seemingly unremarkable story was enough for the girl to be believed unquestioningly by businessmen, socialites, and other rich acquaintances. Anna was not ashamed to live openly at their expense and borrow obscenely large sums. As a result, the police accused Anna of fraud. The heroine of the film, a US journalist investigates the case of Anna Delvey. This series is characterized by psychologism and is very interesting to watch due to the twisted plot.
“THE LINCOLN LAWYER”
The protagonist of this legal drama, lawyer Mickey Haller works in the back of his Lincoln Navigator as he takes on cases in Los Angeles. He is very successful in his job, however, he is known as a defender of the rich and powerful who, for a pittance, will gladly “clean up” even the dirtiest reputation. However, one day Mickey gets into a serious car accident. Fate immediately pushes his darling to the sidelines, and to restore the good name to himself, the man is forced to take on the case of an intricate murder. The series is based on the 2008 novel The Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Neve Campbell, and Angus Sampson starred in the series.
“ARCHIVE 81”
The kind of mystical thriller that, from the first minutes, draws the viewer into its oppressive, mysterious atmosphere. Melody is an ordinary graduate student who has been researching a mysterious cult since 1994. For her dissertation, she interviewed people who were related to the adherents of the cult. However, the young woman was never able to finish her work: there was a fire in the apartment building where she lived, and the bodies of 13 residents, including Melody, were never found.
It would be many years before the videotapes of the deceased came into the hands of a video restorer. The customer – a very wealthy gentleman who offers well-paid work to observe only one condition: to restore the tape outside the city, without any connection with the outside world. The contractor agrees, having no idea what he will have to do very soon. This supernatural horror series will appeal to anyone who loves mystical movies.
